What is Instagram’s creator account?

The Creator Account on Instagram is a specialized account type designed for individuals and influencers who aim to build and engage with their online audience. Introduced by Instagram, this account option offers a range of features and insights tailored to content creators.

With a Creator Account, users can access enhanced analytics, audience demographics, and performance metrics, providing valuable insights into their content’s reach and engagement.

One of the key benefits of the Creator Account is the ability to access advanced tools for content creation and promotion. It includes features like swipe-up links in Instagram Stories (with a minimum follower requirement), branded content tagging, and the ability to categorize your profile according to specific niche interests. These features allow creators to collaborate with brands more seamlessly and promote sponsored content while maintaining transparency with their followers.

Also, the Creator Account provides creators with a comprehensive understanding of their audience. This includes data on followers gained and lost, as well as insights into followers’ demographics such as age range, gender distribution, and geographical location. These analytics empower creators to tailor their content strategy, better understand their target audience, and optimize their engagement efforts.

Overall, the Creator Account on Instagram equips content creators with specialized features, data, and insights to help them effectively grow their audience, collaborate with brands, and refine their content strategy in the dynamic world of social media.

Difference between Creator and Business Instagram accounts

The main difference between a Creator Account and a Business Account on Instagram lies in their primary focus and the features they offer.

A Creator Account is designed specifically for individuals, influencers, and content creators who want to establish and nurture their personal brand. It provides tools and insights tailored to their needs, helping them engage with their audience, collaborate with brands, and understand their content’s performance. Some notable features of a Creator Account include advanced analytics, audience demographics, branded content tagging, and the ability to categorize their profile based on specific interests or niche topics.

On the other hand, a Business Account is intended for businesses, brands, and organizations. It is suitable for companies looking to promote their products or services on Instagram and establish a professional online presence. A Business Account offers features such as the ability to create ads, access Instagram Shopping, utilize call-to-action buttons (like “Contact,” “Book Now,” or “Shop”), and integrate with Facebook’s advertising tools for better campaign management.

While both account types provide insights and analytics, a Creator Account primarily focuses on individual content creators and their audience engagement, whereas a Business Account emphasizes promoting products, generating leads, and facilitating direct interactions between businesses and customers.

Ultimately, the choice between a Creator Account and a Business Account depends on your goals and whether you are an individual content creator or representing a business entity on Instagram. Regardless of which account type you choose, it will be supported by Hopper HQ

Hopper HQ has had a makeover, bringing the creativity back to Instagram management and content planning…

People who manage multiple social media accounts and channels know the importance of planning and scheduling in advance, and use a number of tools, apps, and software to help them manage the workload. Instagram management is particularly time consuming as it has such a visual focus. Social media managers don’t only need to perfect their copy and community engagement, but also their content, colour palette, and overall feed aesthetic!

When redesigning Hopper HQ, we wanted to focus on how social media managers work, and how we can make that workflow even easier and more creative. We’re excited to introduce Hopper HQ’s new look, and announce some highly anticipated features to make Instagram management easier than ever!

1. Visual planning — like an Instagram mood board ✨

Instagram is a visual platform, so your dashboard for Instagram management should be too! Welcome to the new look of Hopper HQ, a clean interface which puts your content at the focus…

instagram management

We’re firm believers that the more you enjoy a task, the better you do it. Instagram management doesn’t need to be tedious, it can be a creative process which brings out the designers and photographers in all of us! With drag and drop and one-click editing, Hopper HQ will allow you to schedule your Instagram content for the month ahead quickly and enjoyably!

Plan & schedule social media ahead of time.

> Video, gallery & image posts
> Calendar, feed & grid preview
> Instagram, Facebook & Twitter

2. Perfect your Instagram theme with the grid planner 🎨

As any social media manager knows, Instagram management isn’t just about the individual posts, but the profile as a whole. In 2020, business Instagram profiles are as (if not more) important than a website, and can result in a huge amount of new customers. However, it takes only a few seconds from landing on an Instagram profile to decide whether you keep scrolling or leave, and this is due to what you see in those first 6 squares.

Many brands and influencers arrange their feed using grid patterns and themes, so that the overall impression of the profile is as impressive as the content. This is intended to grip new visitors and increase the chance of them clicking the Follow button…

But grid patterns and themes are hard to perfect! They require a lot of effort to plan and curate, and are therefore a time consuming area of Instagram management. Hopper HQ’s Grid Planner makes it easy for you to see what your scheduled Instagram posts will look like on your profile once they’ve been published!

You can play around by dragging and dropping the posts to create the best theme or pattern — this will update the order that the posts are published on Instagram. In the new design, you’re able to view your team’s draft posts, and reschedule published content from within the Grid Planner.

Sometimes it’s hard to visualise what individual images will look like next to each other, and many social media managers will have had to delete something that clashes or didn’t look as good as imagined. We take the guessing out of your Instagram management, so you can get it right every time.

3. Boost your Instagram engagement by adding Location Tags 📍

Insta gram posts with a location receive 79% more engagement than those without. Until now, locations had to be added manually after posts had been published, but we’re excited to finally announce that this feature is now available on Hopper HQ! You can add location tags to all of your scheduled photos and videos, streamlining your Instagram management and saving time.

Whether it’s your town or city, or the specific office building you’re in, add locations to all of your Instagram posts to improve engagement. Same goes for the location stickers on Instagram Stories, as you will increase your reach as people view the location Story.

Find the best time to post, track your follower growth, and understand what content works best with post and account analytics.

4. Save time by scheduling your Carousel Posts in advance 📱

Carousel posts are a great way to deliver more value to your followers in a single post. They’re particularly beneficial for grouping a series of similar photos, of an event for example, or a product photoshoot, as well as showing before and after images. If you frequently post long video content, you can also use carousel posts to exceed the 60 second limit and continuing the video by swiping left!

Basically what we’re saying is, the possibilities of carousel posts are endless, and they’re a necessity for any brand to explore in their Instagram management and planning. Carousel posts have been our most requested feature on Hopper HQ since Instagram released them in 2017, so we’re very excited that they’re finally here…

Upload up to 10 photos and videos for your carousel on Hopper HQ, crop and edit quickly and easily with our editing software, and schedule away!

5. Find relevant Instagram hashtags using #Hashtag Explorer 🔎

Using the right hashtags on Instagram is essential to reach your target audience and increase engagement on your posts. Creating a hashtag strategy is a vital part of Instagram management, and often finding new and relevant hashtags is time-consuming part of the research.

Save time swapping between your computer and mobile trying to discover hashtags suggestions! Using the hashtag explorer on Hopper HQ, you can browse hashtags related to ones already in your caption, as well as track their popularity on Instagram. Easily add and remove hashtags in your caption or first comment, and we’ll publish them alongside your post.

Simple Post, Story + Reel Scheduling ✨

Visually plan your social content. Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn + Pinterest

6. Recommended usernames to make @mentions even easier 🗣

Another sure fire way of increasing engagement on Instagram is by mentioning other users in your captions! Whether it’s a customer, a brand partnership, or just a shout out, mentions notify other accounts of your post. This is likely to result in fast engagement, which is important because the Instagram algorithm favours posts that receive likes and comments quickly after being published. As well as engagement, mentions also contribute to building a community and starting conversations with people in your target demographic, which are both huge parts of Instagram management.

Hopper HQ now recommends Instagram users as you type, so you can quickly find the account you’re looking for, as well as make sure your mentions are going to notify the right people!

7. Perfect your posting consistency with a visual content calendar 🗓

Second to what you’re posting, one of the most important factors of Instagram management is how often you’re posting. There’s no right or wrong answer for how often brands or influencers should post on Instagram, as long as it’s consistent, and not spammy.

The easiest way to prevent against rushed or ad-hoc posts on Instagram is to create a content calendar. This way you know exactly what’s going out when, and it’s easy to notice any gaps! Using the new Hopper HQ calendar you can clearly see your scheduled posts in either a monthly or weekly view…

instagram management

In order to increase engagement on Instagram, make sure you are posting when your audience are online and active! Connect your business Instagram account to our free tool to find out the best time to post on Instagram for your followers…

Happy posting! 🎉

Hopper HQ’s newest features and interface will save heaps of time on Instagram management, as well as make scheduling a creative part of any social media managers’ week! Test it out yourself with a free 14 day trial. Let us know if you have any more feature requests, we’d love to hear from you 💙

A content calendar allows you to plan ahead so followers receive a momentous flow of stimulating images on their feed 2 or 3 times a day, every day. Leaving large gaps of ‘no posting’ between days will make them question whether they should keep following you.

Every successful social media campaign has a supporting backbone plan in place. If you’re an agency, then you should have a plan for each client. A content calendar forms one chunk of this plan that helps you to organise all your available resources. It requires forward planning which involves a significant investment of your time but is key to pay off dividends at the end of each campaign.

Business Digital Devices Connecting Concept

Keep on Track

“Keep control of the expansive river of images flowing into your content calendar and out onto Instagram in front of audiences’ eyes. Ensuring there is always something in the pipeline to engage with followers, the detail you include will require innovative thought to make each post stand out in front of your target viewers.”

So the idea is to create a marketing strategy that is so well formulated, that you know what you will be posting 3 Tuesdays from now. Or even the third Tuesday, three months away.

A content calendar will give you clear vision, so you can focus on:

  • Clear Communication
  • Meeting Deadlines
  • Assigning Resources

Creating Your Content Calendar

On social media terms, calendars should be attractive as possible. It’s what gets us motivated and excited to plan ahead and always be 5 steps ahead of the future.

Excel is a basic accessible tool to outline all your information with options to highlight cells to make them stand out. Compatible for sharing with others, it’s easy to populate with data and you should always aim to keep it looking clean and simple, so it’s easy to retrieve information at a glance.

CoSchedule is a fancy tool (WordPress plugin) that will ensure you never miss a deadline. It even has a drag and drop feature.

Collect Ideas

Before you can start padding out your calendar, you will need to schedule regular fortnightly, monthly workshops to get creative input on content from all the resources involved, namely your social media influencers, research panel audiences and the marketing manager themselves.

The content ideas you take away from your workshops should align parallel to the marketing goals the brand wishes to achieve. So if your objective is to market a new line of party-ware ceramics for weddings or birthdays, the images should contain enough image power to showcase this; the theme should be party and the props could include mouthwatering canapĂŠs served in ceramic platters, alongside crystal clear champagne glasses.

Populating Your Content Calendar

An annual high level calendar outlining all the months is useful to label all the upcoming campaigns you wish to promote throughout the year.

Your content calendar schedule images against days and times, as well as outlining:

  • the type of content you want to publish
  • how you plan to create it
  • the target audience
  • the social media influencer
  • location tags
  • hashtags
  • captions
  • promotional codes associated with any products being advertised

content_calendar_instagram

Your content calendar will give you the flexibility to swap posts around to alternative dates. Just remember to communicate the latest version to other members of the campaign project, e.g influencers. Version controlling is an effective way to ensure everyone is working from the latest document.

Don’t forget to fill in any gaps!

Review your content calendar periodically

Once you have scheduled your posts on Instagram, make it a point to revisit your content calendar periodically to make sure that your submissions continue to be relevant. This is to make sure that you do not miss any new developments in the industry or the world at large.

Weekends are for relaxing, so use Hopper HQ and schedule your Instagram content weeks in advance.

There’s three things we love in this world: Instagram, Christmas and… Data. So, it was both enjoyable and eye-opening for us to combine all three to find out which top consumer brands executed the best festive campaigns on Instagram this year.

In January we’re excited to be launching our Hopper HQ Instagram Analytics tool. But until then we’ve put it to good use to analyse our favourite Christmas brand’s Instagram data, like how many new followers they’ve obtained in a given time frame, how many new likes they’ve received and what their most popular post is.

We ran the UK’s top 15 consumer brands through the tool and monitored their Instagram activity from the 4th December to the 18th December, and you may be surprised by the results, we certainly were!

It wasn’t John Lewis, Coca Cola or Marks and Spencer that implemented the most successful Christmas post within their campaign on Instagram, oh no. It was in fact H&M who won the highest ‘liked’ post during ‘Battle of the Brands’, and on first review by a long. In fact, the most engaged with festive post from a brand was a regram of a pug in a festive dress that H&M posted!

Yet again more proof if you ever need it that dogs, more specifically pugs and user generated content often win on Instagram.

But as with everything in the Instagram world there is more that meets the eye. Looking at H&M’s number of followers and their global nature, its obvious their posts are likely to get the highest number of likes and comments, but this doesn’t necessarily say their campaign is the best.

By analysing the posts engagement rate (percentage of engagement relative to their number of followers), H&M is in fact 8th on the list receiving just 1.36% engagement. The brands with the highest engaged Christmas posts relative to their accounts were actually Aldi (5.54%), John Lewis (3.92%) and Heathrow Airport(!) (2.86%). Surprisingly the previous Christmas champion Coca Cola had the least engaged Christmas post at just 0.27% engagement.

Coca Cola are also second from last when reviewing follower growth over the festive period with just 0.44% growth. Topping the growth chart is once again challenger supermarket brand Aldi with an impressive 1.94% growth. This is a stark contrast to Walmart owned ASDA, one of their biggest rivals who are at the bottom of the growth table actually losing 0.57% of their followers.

Here’s the full breakdown of our brand Christmas Instagram data in order of how many likes their most popular Christmas posts received:

Hopper HQ co-founder, Mike Bandar, said,

“The results of our research and analysis are surprising, we fully expected brands that are known for their Christmas marketing campaigns, like John Lewis and Marks and Spencer, to come out on top. I think what the results do show is that just because a brand invests heavily in a Christmas campaign, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be communicated and executed well over all marketing platforms. Although we do of course need to look at both the number of engagements but also the engagement rate from followers.

“What we can take away from this research is that it’s not as simple as creating an emotive advert, campaigns must be tailored depending on the platform and knowing your audience and how to interact with them is key – the fact the most engaged with brand Christmas post is a regram is testament that users love user-generated content, and brands should take note of that!”

Instagram does not inform users how many people have unfollowed them or who they are. There have been third-party tools that showed you unfollows (e.g. Unfollowgram) however due to Instagram’s new terms of use they have shut down. Some tools are still technically able to show you your unfollowers. These include Crowdfire, Instafollow & Whofollow.

Do these unfollowing apps break Instagram’s terms of use?

On Instagram’s change in terms of use back in 2013 many third-party tools had to shut down. These tools did not adhere to the new standards and therefore were no longer able to continue. One example was Unfollowgram which had allowed users to see their unfollowers for a number years. While many tools that did adhere to these standards were able to continue, Unfollowgram was sadly not.

How about the Instagram unfollowing apps that are still running? Are they breaking Instagram terms of use? They very well could be. Their service is similar to Unfollowgram, their only difference is that they are mobile apps while the former was accessible on desktop. Where Unfollowgram has shut down, these apps have not (however some have experienced technical issues). We’d recommend using your own judgement when using these apps, if they appear to be a little shady then it might be worth staying clear.

What is Crowdfire?

Crowdfire homepage

Crowdfire is described as a social media engagement tool. Working exclusively with Instagram and Twitter it aims to make social media insights clearer and more helpful. It helps you figure out the social media updates that affect your follower/unfollower stats, find people not following you back and, most importantly, show you your recent unfollowers. If you’re looking to use these features you will need to upgrade to one of Crowdfire’s plans, starting at $9.99 all the way up to $199.99. Does it work? Well that’s where we saw a problem. Despite all our tests, Crowdfire wasn’t able to track new followers or unfollowers. This may be due to an unfortunate technical error, however as with all other apps be sure to eer on the side of caution.

What is Instafollow?instafollow app

Instafollow (called Followers For Instagram in the Apple store) is a mobile app for both Android and iOS that keeps a track of all your followers. You can check out ‘gained followers’ and most importantly ‘Lost followers’. Extra features include seeing your ‘Top Likers’, ‘Top Commenters’ and the mysteriously named ‘Secret Admirers’. Simple features are free but if you’re looking to add more than one account or see more advanced analytics, then you’ll have to commit to one of the in-app purchases.

What is Whofollow?

whofollow app

Similar to Instafollow, WhoUnfollow (full name WhoUnfollow for Instagram) allows you to see who’s unfollowed you on Instagram. It also shows you who you’re following and not getting a follow back from, as well as similar insights such as ‘Top Likers’ and ‘Top Commenters’. There has been reports of several technical issues with Whofollow, so it may be worth trying a more popular tool first.

Why should I track my Instagram Unfollowers?

Lots of effort goes into getting new Instagram followers, whether that be improving your photos, choosing the best time to post, or less honorable means. However when you lose a follower this can be the quickest way to find the significant problems in your social media efforts. You can reach out to your unfollowers, asking them why they decided to leave. Maybe it’s due to a change in your content, maybe it’s because you haven’t been posting enough lately (another reason to start scheduling your posts). If talking to new followers is a great way to learn your strengths, talking to new unfollowers is a great way to learn your weaknesses and find out why you’re being unfollowed.

This past week we hosted a treasure hunt; the Hopper HQ Cash Dash. We threw away ÂŁ507.16 somewhere in London with clues hidden across five locations, whoever found the stash got to keep the cash.

If you kept an eye on our social media channels this week you would have caught a glimpse of the Hopper HQ cash dash. We threw away ÂŁ507.16 in a secret location in Soho, London. Whoever found the stash got to keep the cash. To locate the stash you had to follow a trail of clues mapped out across five locations, first to reach the final location and find the stash got to keep the cash.

We had a tremendous response from  over 400 enthusiastic Londoners; a plurality of 302 marketing professionals and 103 members of the general public signed up, with 171 marketing professionals and 40 members of the public participating on the day, eager to join the hunt and find the stash. After an adrenaline filled treasure-hunt-esque marathon across Soho, London, @samphirechicks from Samphire Communications found the stash and kept the cash, a big congratulations to you!

“The hunt was possibly the most fun I could have on a Tuesday lunch break. We were originally two pairs, Lucy & Fred and Lauren & Isabelle, but we bumped into each other at Soho Square and being colleagues thought it too awkward not to team up! We’ve always been fans of Hopper HQ as it helps us with our social media clients immensely so being able to be part of something they planned was great.”

Winner Lauren Gregory of Samphire Communications

Team Hopper had an amazing time out in London with all of you who showed up and participated, for that we’d like to extend a huge thank you to all those who took part  and took selfies (including you Mr. Deliveroo biker ?). Why did we throw away ÂŁ507.16 in a bin in London?

Now you might be wondering what was the point of the whole Cash Dash treasure hunt, well besides the great fun we all had, stashing ÂŁ507.16 in a secret bin in London was not just for the games (or the hundreds of selfies we were sent). There was a greater message behind it; think of the cash dash as a live action true to life theatre production metaphor, yes metaphor!

Agencies and digital marketers throw away £507.16 every month by not scheduling their Instagram posts and we wanted to metaphor- or demonstrate exactly what that looked like. According to our internal data, scheduling using Hopper HQ the automated Instagram scheduling tool is 3 times faster than sending an image to your phone and uploading manually. On average brand and agency accounts post twice a day. (6 minutes a day). The average agency account manages 10 Instagram accounts. (60 minutes a day). 30 days in a month (30 hours saved). The average social media professional salary is £16.92 according to Indeed and there are 63,111 social media professionals registered on LinkedIn globally.

“We wanted to do something fun and engaging that would demonstrate just how much money marketing agencies and brands are throwing away every year by not scheduling their Instagram posts. These aren’t figures plucked out of thin air either – we know that Hopper is 3 minutes faster than manually posting, so imagine how much more time and consequently money social media professionals would have if they saved that on every client they worked with!”
